Job overview

Breast Unit Assistant Practitioner in Mammography

Please note: This post will close when sufficient number of applications are received therefore it may close prior to the closing date.

The Breast Unit has a vacancy for an Assistant Practitioner in Mammography to join our team.  For candidates who do not currently hold a Mammography qualification, training may be considered.  Under these circumstances salary will be paid at a lower rate to reflect the training status and will remain until successful completion of qualification and preceptorship.

The post holder will perform mammography examinations in accordance with current departmental guidelines, policies and protocols, while providing a high level of patient care. The post holder will be able to produce good quality diagnostic images while safely using highly complex technical mammography equipment. The post holder will work in the main breast imaging department and across mobile sites throughout the county.

Other duties include providing a wide range of clinical, technical and administrative support within the breast imaging department.

Due to the nature of the work, mammography posts have a gender protected character. This is a genuine occupational requirement and as a result this post is exempt under Schedule 9; Part1 of the Equality Act 2010 and therefore only female applicants over 18 should apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for performing mammography with precision and speed, at a consistently high technical standard at the Breast Centre and Mobile Screening Units. They will deliver a high-quality service for patients referred to the NHSBSP Breast Screening and Symptomatic breast service.

Other duties will include, chaperone duties as per departmental need, routine QA equipment testing, assisting and supporting colleagues and patients throughout clinical and radiological procedures, general housekeeping and infection control tasks.

They will maintain positive professional links with medical and non-medical staff within the unit, and with other departments, to promote the highest service standards and collaborative working. They will be a positive ambassador for the Breast Service and maintain a positive attitude toward work.

Mammography is undertaken for the North Tees Breast Imaging service at mobile sites across County Durham, Teesside and North Yorkshire and the Breast Imaging Centre in Stockton, Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, and the post holder will need to be able to travel independently to all of these locations.
