Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for; 

Job overview

The Urogynaecology unit at RDH site comprises of 3 consultants – Mr J Dasgupta and Miss B Purwar (Subspecialist Urogynaecologists) and Mr B Biswas (Urogynaecologist) and 2 Specialist nurses; and at QHB site: Miss N Chikhes, Urogynaecology consultants. Both the units are BSUG accredited and regularly submit their data to the BSUG database with excellent secretarial support.

RDH site provides a tertiary care Urogynaecology service, with referrals from neighbouring trusts and performing laparoscopic Urogynaecology procedures (about 25 cases of lap Colposuspension and 10 Sacro colpopexies per year), and Autologous Fascial Slings (10 per year). This unit performs a huge number of different reconstructive vaginal surgeries (around 300) for prolapse, including sacrospinous fixation; Injectables (BOTOX and urethral bulking agent) for DO and SUI, joint operative work with colorectal surgeons and urologists if required and agreed through MDT meetings. ICIQ validated questionnaires are always collected pre and post operatively and submitted to audit database.

The unit has got several projects ready to undertake once the successful candidate is in post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake clinical sessions with duties within Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as Emergency/On-call in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. When on call during the daytime, the post holder will be included in the SpR on call rota covering Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The post holder will also participate in an emergency OOHs shift rota.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants must possess MRCOG qualification, Specialty Registrar Year 3 or above (or equivalent) experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology & be able to provide evidence of a Personal Development Plan & Log Book.

The post holder will be expected to perform research as well performing regular clinical sessions. Whilst this post is for an initial period of one year it is expected that the successful applicant will generate publications during this period. It is possible to extend this contract depending upon the candidates’ abilities and departmental needs to formalise this research to achieve a higher degree of MD/ PhD. There are a few provisional clinical research projects are in place in the field of Urogynaecology related to: the outcome of Obstetrics Anal Sphincter Injuries (OASIs), Laparoscopic Colposuspension and rectocele repair & management of defecatory problem.

Essential criteria
  • • MBBS (or recognised equivalent)
  • • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice at time of application
  • • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
  • • CTG training
  • • Basic surgical skills training
  • • Completion of a foundation programme or written evidence of equivalent foundation competencies
  • • Minimum of 12 months experience within a UK Healthcare setting
  • • Evidence of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • • Satisfies the RCOG curriculum matrix for ST3 or above in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ability to evidence Personal Development Plan & Log Book.
  • • Experience of supervising juniors
  • • Evidence of participation/presentation in audit and research
