We are looking for an enthusiastic Radiographer to join our friendly  team, to undertake a variety of plain film, dental, fluoroscopy, mobile and theatre examinations efficiently and effectively for our patients, adhering to best practice of radiographic technique.

Working within the Radiology department at FGH provides excellent opportunities to gain experience in a wide range of  imaging procedures including trauma, MSK, paediatrics and oncology. The department is equipped with a Siemens DR room and a Phillips DR room as well as 2 Phillips DR mobiles, two GE image intensifiers and a brand new GE fluoroscopy suite.

The department carries out of full range of investigations, including MR, CT, US and SPECT Imaging. PACS was installed in April 2007 and updated in 2017.

Applications from final year students would also be welcome.  

This is a progressive directorate that supports CPD and role development.

Main duties of the job

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their professional and clinical work.
To assess the physical, mental emotional or spiritual needs of the patient, and adjust technique accordingly.
Must be able to adapt protocols, procedures and techniques according to the patient’s clinical condition.
To ensure patients understand what examination they are having and gain valid informed consent. 
This must include patients who have difficulties in understanding or communicating (deaf, blind etc)
To input data accurately into the Radiology Information System
To ensure the information held on the hospital Information system is correct and amend as required.
Ensure all examinations and work practices are carried out in a professional and appropriate manner.

To provide a written comment on the appearances seen on an x-ray, as an aid to the requesting casualty officer- not to be responsible for diagnosis.

Furness General Hospital is on the doorstep to the Lake District, the Trust is set in some of the most remarkable surroundings in the UK, facilitating an abundance of outdoor activities.  There are many OFSTED "Good" and "Outstanding" Primary and Secondary schools near by.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full ED's, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Our community services for adults are provided in people’s homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals and our main hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high quality care, advice and support.

  • DCR or BSc Radiography HPC Registration OR final year radiography student
  • Evidence of CPD
