Job overview
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) seek to appoint two consultant gastroenterologists to Glan Clwyd Hospital. The recruitment is both for replacement and expansion of the department to support specialist areas (particularly nutrition and ERCP) and the introduction of a formal out of hours networked gastrointestinal bleed service. The gastroenterology firm is based on ward 9 which has recently been refurbished.
There is a nutrition support team, for which one of the successfully appointed candidates will be expected to provide clinical leadership. Inflammatory bowel disease patients are supported by the department of gastroenterology with IBD nurse / endoscopy nurses.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to regular endoscopy sessions in the dedicated endoscopy unit based at Glan Clwyd. The unit provides the EUS service for North Wales and is a bowel cancer screening accredited unit.
The post holder will share inpatient and outpatient general gastroenterology workload. Currently there is no formal on site out of hours endoscopy service, but the Health Board is developing a service including a 1:8 GIT bleeding rota.
Main duties of the job
- Provide, with Consultant colleagues, a service in the speciality of Gastroenterology and General Medicine with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness
- Provide a service in the specialty of Gastroenterology
- Have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge
- Be responsible for patients admitted to ward
- provide specialty in reach during the week
- Validate outpatient referrals and endoscopy requests
- Undertake outpatient clinics
- Develop subspeciality interests

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GMC full registration
- Full MRCP
- CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Desirable criteria
- Higher Post Graduate qualification
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 4 years supervised training in an appropriate Gastroenterology SpR equivalent training programme
- Familiarity with NHS
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience in Endoscopy, independent at diagnostic and therapeutic OGD and colonoscopy
Desirable criteria
- Subspecialty interest in nutrition
- Subspecialty interest in ERCP
- Subspecialty interest in hepatology
Management and Administrative Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues in an MDT setting.
- Ability and willingness to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
