Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 6 Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist with experience and skills working in Hand Therapy to join our friendly team. You will have the ability to work autonomously assessing, reviewing and treating patients following elective or traumatic post-op hand surgery and patients with arthritic conditions. The post is full time (37.5 hours) and will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe and Northwich Infirmary. 
 
You will have an understanding of assessing and treating patients following fractures, soft tissue injuries and repetitive strain injuries and a range of orthopaedic and arthritic conditions. You will be able to  liaise closely with the Hand Therapy MDT consisting of physiotherapy, fracture clinic, orthopaedic clinic and the consultants as required. Good triaging and prioritising skills are required to ensure that patients are seen in priority order. Knowledge of wound care management and removal of sutures is beneficial in this role.
 
There are regular in-service training and specialist interest groups that you will have access to along side regular supervision and appraisals. 

Main duties of the job

 
  • As a clinical specialist you will provide high standard comprehensive therapy assessment and treatment service to patients with complex presentation related to orthopaedics and some arthritic conditions.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to delegated staff.
  • To demonstrate skills and knowledge utilising splinting materials to fabricate post surgery hand splints including resting splints and functional splints.
  • To demonstrate an awareness of wound care and management post surgery.
  • To collaborate closely with the patient and members of the multidisciplinary and multi-agency team to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients
  • To continuously contribute to service development and innovation
  • To work autonomously to manage a defined complex patient caseload whilst working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients, contributing to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
