Job overview
The role will be offered on a secondment basis
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who can produce results in a challenging environment. As Lead Smoking Cessation Coordinator, you will be supported by the Tobacco Dependency Service Lead .
The Trust is committed to encouraging and supporting smokers, who access our services, to stop smoking. We recognise that tobacco dependency is a chronic, relapsing, clinical condition that prematurely kills at least half of the people who smoke. Smoking is a medical condition, not a lifestyle choice.
To effectively deliver this intervention, the successful candidate will need excellent communication, motivational and organisational skills, and work as part of a smoking cessation coordination team. The Lead Smoking Cessation Coordinator will report to the Tobacco Dependency Service Lead. Working under unsupervised guidance, the Lead Smoking cessation Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the Smoking Cessation Coordinators engage with smokers attending the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department, motivate smokers to stop smoking and facilitate referral to community smoking cessation services, ensuring effective transfer of care.
Some weekend work may be required in the future, on a rota basis (to be confirmed).
There is one full time post available. We would be happy to speak to staff who would consider a secondment.
PLEASE NOTE THIS VACANCY IS RELATED TO EXTERNAL AND FIXED-TERM FUNDING

- Leading the Smoking Cessation Coordinators within the Trust, including the development and implementation of policies and guidance.
- Providing tobacco dependency interventions and advice to patients.
- Supporting the development and delivery of very brief advice (VBA) training for Trust staff.
- The post holder will also contribute to the wider role of the team in the promotion, development, monitoring and evaluation of the Smoking Cessation Coordination Team.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the only provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300, providing inpatient and outpatient services at the Manor Hospital as well as a wide range of services in the community. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and the continued upgrading of existing areas ensures the Trust now has a state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre, and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities.
