Job overview
Orthoptist (Band 5/6 Depending on Experience)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Orthoptist to join our supportive team of 16 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists and 14 Ophthalmic Technicians at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.
The department has recently been awarded University Department status, and there is scope for the successful candidate to be involved in research projects and teaching, and we are an accredited placement site for undergraduate and postgraduate Orthoptic students.
The successful post holder will be required to work at our main sites in Reading and Windsor, and may be required to travel to our satellite sites at Newbury, Bracknell and Henley-on-Thames.
Whilst this post is advertised as a Band 6, we would welcome applications from Newly Qualified Orthoptists, who would be supported through a Band 5 to 6 preceptorship programme.
Main duties of the job
The role is suitable for an experienced orthoptist who is keen to progress and gain experience in a variety of core and enhanced practice roles.
Within the department we support core orthoptics, including paediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus clinics, as well as specialist stroke clinics, as well as having orthoptists work in the glaucoma, AMD injection, low vision and corneal services.
This post would be ideal for a candidate who has an interest in developing their specialist skills in one of these areas.
Working for our organisation
Diversity makes us interesting… Inclusion is what will make us outstanding.
Inequality exists and the journey to eliminate it is not easy. Every step we take will be a purposeful step forward to deliver a truly inclusive culture where all our people are enabled to deliver outstanding care, where background is no barrier, and where everyone can be their authentic self and we truly represent our patient community.
We are committed to equal opportunities and welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of any protected characteristics. Reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled applicants where possible. All applicants who have a disability and meet the minimum criteria for the post can opt for a guaranteed interview.
