We are looking for a passionate and skilled Sonographer to join our dynamic Radiology Team, specialising in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Working across our 3 main sites, St Albans City Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Watford General Hospital, you will independently perform and report high-quality obstetric and gynaecological scans, contributing to safe and effective antenatal screening.

You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team in a progressive department that values innovation, education, and patient-centred care.

The post holder will independently perform, interpret, and report ultrasound scans across Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

As a confident practitioner, you’ll manage a varied and complex caseload, support junior staff, and contribute to national audit schemes such as DQASS. Key skills include NT scan compliance, effective triage, excellent communication, and patient-centred care.

You will play a role in service development, protocol writing, and peer review while ensuring all scanning meets high-quality assurance standards.

You will deliver high-quality ultrasound imaging services across Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of cases.

The role includes supporting screening programmes, supervising trainee sonographers, and maintaining quality assurance standards through audit participation.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best patient outcomes.

This is a full-time substantive post with core hours from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend cover required on a rota basis.

Education and qualifications:

  • DMU or PgD in Ultrasound or PgC/PgD in: • a chosen clinical speciality. • advanced practice skills of reporting. • advanced communication. • extended pathophysiology
  • Professional Registration with a regulatory body – HCPC / NMC / RCT.

  • MSc, or working towards one.

Knowledge:

  • Complex knowledge of pathologies.
  • Detailed knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Actively participates in CPD relevant to professional needs.
  • Detailed understanding of the Combined Screening Programme including FMF standards and the role of DQASS in ongoing audit and performance monitoring.

Experience:

  • Proficient NHS ultrasound experience in Obstetrics, gynaecology.
  • Previously worked at Practitioner Sonographer level.
