Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is focused on providing excellent patient pathways and patient-centred care. The centre is based in Guildford with a satellite site at the East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. This role may require you to work occasionally at the satellite centre to ensure coverage of service.
We require you to be enthusiastic, friendly and hard working with excellent communication skills, and have the ability to manage your time, plan and prioritise your work
You will be required to work in a team and make decisions within your scope of practice. You must have a clear understanding of patient confidentiality and ensure that this is maintained both in and out of the workplace.
Main duties of the job
This role is to support the clinical and administration teams within our busy, friendly Radiotherapy department. Key aspects of the role include:
- Providing practical support to patients and their carers during their visit to the department.
- Assist in clinical duties related to the running of clinics, supporting theatre sessions, chaperoning, restocking , locating patient documentation.
- Assist in administrative duties relating to clinics, the delivery of Radiotherapy and CT scanning.
- Participate in supporting staff and students.
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the demands of the role.
- You must be physically capable of spending some of the day on your feet and assisting in the moving and handling of patients.

If you do not hold the Trust’s Care Certificate it will be essential that you attend 3 weeks training to achieve the Care Certificate which is a requirement for this role. Other training related to the post will also be provided e.g. venepuncture and assisting in theatre in addition to the Trust’s mandatory training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to support clinical staff members in in the care and
administration of patients undergoing radiotherapy, working with Medical,
Radiographic, Physics and Administrative colleagues.
2.1 JOB SUMMARY
As a radiotherapy department assistant working as part of a radiotherapy team, you
will be under the direct supervision of the Brachytherapy Operational Manager but will
also be required to liaise with the other managers within the department, especially in
regards to daily clinical needs.
As a key element of the role, the post holder will provide information, practical and
emotional support to patients and carers during their radiotherapy treatment, plus
support the clinical staff across the sections within the department.
The post holder will be required to provide both clinical and administrative support.
The Royal Surrey Cancer Centre Radiotherapy Department is based at the Royal
Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and operates a satellite service from the East
Surrey Hospital in Redhill. This post is based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital
Guildford however some cover may be required at Redhill to cover annual leave and
sickness
