Job overview

An exciting new training  opportuntiy has arisen for an enthusiastic RGN in the Sexual Health and Contraception Service.  The successful candidate will be part of a skilled and welcoming nursing team and will be supported to learn and develop within the speciality.  

You will work towards becoming an autonomous practitioner, under the umbrella of a friendly and enthusiastic team.  This unique development post will offer a clear pathway to achieving required skills and competencies over a one to two year period.   You will demonstarate  a passion for improving the quality of life for the local community; an interest and understanding of sexual health, and a desire and committment to learn new skills. This post is advertised as a training post under Annexe 21, and salary will be 70 % of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate.  The expectation is that competencies will be completed within two years.    All interviews will be held face to face.          

Main duties of the job

u  delivering a high standard of patient care as a Sexual and Reproductive Health Nurse

u  providing holistic nursing care using a range of assessment methods including history taking, physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory results where appropriate

u  plans programmes of care that are based on evidence and clinical judgement 

in the best interests of patients

discussed, negotiated and agreed with the patient/carer manages risk

emphasises preventative measures

u  managing own caseload of patients and referring to other members of the multidisciplinary team if further support is required 

u  provides appropriate information to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections including routes of transmission, treatment and long-term health implications

u  Works with Patient Group Directions in according to Trust guidelines and the law or is working towards Independent Nurse Prescribing whilst using patient group directions according to Trust guidelines 

u  providing continuity of care to patients, families and other carers

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year. 

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
