Job overview

Berkshire Healthcare are seeking motivated candidates for 2 x Band 6 Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist positions (Full time / Part Time) in the MSK Physiotherapy Outpatient team. 

Across the service we receive a wide variety of referrals from GP surgeries, orthopaedic clinics, the MSK Triage Service, FCPs and from the Trusts Specialist Spinal Service (IPASS) / MSK Community Specialist Service (CSS). 

The 2 roles operate in different localities as follows: 

East Locality Role - Rotational through St Marks Hospital / Foundation House (Windsor), Upton Hospital (Slough) and Churchill House (Bracknell) 

West Locality Role (based at West Berkshire Community Hospital, Bath Road (Reading) or Wokingham Community Hospital) 

Site options and roles will be discussed at interview  A B5 / 6 Development role could alternatively be considered, and we would welcome applications on this basis.   

We have excellent clinical and administrative teams ranging from Bands 3 – 7 and you will have access to Band 7 Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists for supervision and In-Service Training as well as links with a team of 24 APPs in IPASS and CSS. 

The successful candidates will need to be committed to providing high quality, effective assessment and physiotherapy treatment, promoting self-management and empowerment of your patientsThey should demonstrate postgraduate experience for a minimum of 12 months inclusive of MSK rotations and a passion for musculoskeletal out-patients.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a senior physiotherapy practitioner to provide a high quality, responsive outpatient physiotherapy service for adults & children with musculoskeletal & orthopaedic conditions 
  • To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, treatment and caseload management 

  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner working without direct supervision. 

  • To be involved in supervision and education of junior physiotherapists, physiotherapy assistants, technical instructors, work experience students and physiotherapy students

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC/GOsC Registered
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD e.g. maintained in a portfolio; attendance at musculoskeletal postgraduate courses; informal learning
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the CSP

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • 18 months band 5 rotational experience or suitable alternative experience; must include at least 4 months of Musculoskeletal Outpatients.
  • Have worked in the NHS and understand the role of a Band 6 within it.
  • Have worked in the NHS and understand the role of a Band 6 within it. Experience working as part of a physiotherapy and/or multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of student, Band 5 or physiotherapy assistant supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience at Band 6 Physiotherapist level

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience with audit
  • Self-directed learning
  • Ability to work independently
  • Awareness of Primary care working and NHS structures
  • Good computer literacy
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of RIO / Smart card
