Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated Band 7 Dietitian for 1-year fixed term to join West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust Dietetic Department.

The successful applicant will be a source of clinical expertise for Dietetic colleagues and will take an active part in the training of student Dietitians and the supervision of junior staff.

As an integral part of the ICU and Surgical Multidisciplinary Team of Specialist Nurses and Consultants there will be exciting opportunities to be part of new developments across the division.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a high quality, evidence-based service to ICU, Nutrition Team and surgical wards.

You will be the Clinical lead for the department ensuring local nutritional policies and guidelines are kept up-to-date.

You will be a core member of the NST providing expert dietary assessment and advice to patients and the wider MDT. 

The department is committed to providing a quality service, promoting evidence-based practice, audit, CPD.

There are opportunities for training and development and clinical supervision together with regular journal clubs and study sessions.

Person specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential criteria
  • Degree or post graduate diploma in Nutrition/Dietetics.
  • HCPC UK registered dietitian.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of BDA.
  • Member of the BDA specialist group eg critical care specialist group.

Knowledge:

Essential criteria
  • Post graduate study in specialist area of dietetics e.g. PENG course.

Experience:

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate post registration clinical experience.
  • Sound knowledge of current dietetic issues relating to management of critically ill patients.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing leadership to a clinical team.
