Clinical Psychologist

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

This role will include providing assessments and therapy to children and their families who are currently receiving inpatient and outpatient treatment for cancer and leukaemia, as well as supporting those who have finished their treatment and are receiving follow up care. You will work alongside other psychologists and the wider psychosocial team to provide psychological advice support and consultation, working directly with children and families and indirectly with staff in the hospital and across our network. Clinical Psychology is highly valued by the multidisciplinary team. Within the General Paediatrics service your role will include offering in- and outpatient assessments and interventions, as well we providing advice and consultation to the wider team and liaison with other local services. We are looking for candidates who have experience of working with children and families in a paediatric setting and enthusiasm for collaborative working.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Postgraduate doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the Health Professions Council
Experience of assessing and working with children and young people with a whole range of emotional and behavioural difficulties and their families/carers, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a range of settings including outpatient, community, educational and residential.
Experience of working in an acute paediatric setting and/or experience of working with children and families experiencing issues related to loss, bereavement, long term medical needs, severe illness or injury.
Experience of providing psychological management for children and young people who find it difficult to comply with medical procedures or regimens.
Experience of carrying out neuropsychological assessments with children and young people.

Further post-doctoral training in the psychological assessment and treatment of children and young people with acute and chronic illnesses and life-limiting conditions, acquired through structured clinical supervision, self-study and attendance at relevant courses. Training in restraint, e.g. SCIP

As our Head of Operations for our Eastern Regional team, you’ll use your enthusiasm, positive thinking, and your management skills to support our local team. Dementia UK is seeking a Consultant Admiral Nurse - Young Onset Dementia to provide expert clinical advice and support to families.

As part of our team, you will provide strategic, professional, and clinical leadership in Admiral Nursing, contributing to educational programmes and developing resources to raise awareness and promote best practice. You will also ensure that the needs of those affected are represented in national policy, research, and clinical guidance.

Clinical support can be delivered via telephone, online, and in clinics, and you will dedicate a minimum of 25% of your time carrying out this essential work. In collaboration with healthcare and social care partners, you will offer specialist advice to other Admiral Nurses and professionals across the sector, sharing high-quality education and research. Your leadership skills will be essential in motivating staff at all levels and in developing and leading policy relating to young onset dementia.
