Job overview

The Clinical Safety Officer will be a registered clinician responsible for overseeing the clinical risk management process for healthcare IT products and services. They will provide leadership, guidance, support, and specialist knowledge in relation to Clinical Safety and current NHS Digital standards (e.g., DCB0129, DCB160). The post holder will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to embed clinical safety throughout the lifecycle of digital health products.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

•    Clinical Risk Management: Oversee clinical risk management processes, develop and maintain Clinical Safety Cases and Hazard Logs, and lead clinical safety assessments.

•    Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with product developers, clinicians, and external partners, providing clinical safety expertise and advice.

•    Regulatory Compliance and Documentation: Ensure compliance with relevant standards, lead the development and submission of safety-related documentation.

•    Education and Training: Deliver training sessions on clinical risk management principles and promote a culture of clinical safety awareness.

•    Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor post-market safety data and prepare regular clinical safety reports.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Clinician with current active/ current membership to a regulatory body
  • Clinical Safety Qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Trust and national drivers for digital change
  • Knowledge of evidence based risk assessment and management processes, and the ability to engage clinicians in these processes effectively
  • Working knowledge of policies and legislation relating to Information management such as GDPR and Data protection

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience/ Post qualification at Band 6
  • To have contributed to the development and implementation of new Digital technologies or of the development of an EPR
  • Experience in writing clinical safety reports, the development of Hazard logs, Hazard Workshops and action planning

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to evidence confident and autonomous decision making and sound judgment skills
  • Ability to lead and manage stressful and emotive situations
  • Demonstrate empathy and understanding when supporting staff through digital change. Offer credible solutions and mitigations for digital change
