We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well-integrated team.
Our newly expanded Senior Clinical Fellow programme includes the option of full time Emergency Medicine posts as well as 80:20 split posts between Emergency Medicine and a specialist interest.

Main duties of the job
We aim to ensure that the correct level of competence is achieved, including:
· Development of managing the emergency department, including liaison with senior nursing team
· Resuscitation and major trauma clinical skills
· Supervision and provision of clinical advice to junior medical staff
· Formulating and implementing management plans for patients within sphere of competence in both acute and long-term presentations.
· Refining of procedural skills
· Responsibility for effective communication with other members of the clinical team to ensure the planned management for each patient is carried out.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Our Senior Clinical Fellow programme includes posts with the exciting opportunity to have 20% of time dedicated to a specialist interest. The specialist interest posts include sports & exercise medicine, pre-hospital emergency medicine, paediatric retrieval & transfer, and point of care ultrasound. See more information below.
Whilst working in Emergency Medicine, you will join a team of 29 consultants, 3 specialty doctors, 18 senior resident and higher specialty trainee doctors, 28 other resident doctors, 9 ACPs and over 100 nurses working in the Emergency Department. This post involves a full shift system, involving nights and weekend work. Your primary responsibility will include delivering care to the full spectrum of patients that attend the emergency department and on shift clinical supervision of junior members of the team. You will be a key component of the trauma team and will have the chance to act as the Trauma Team Leader (with supervision). You will use and develop your emergency care skills to resuscitate the most critically unwell patients. Senior clinical fellows in the Emergency Department are supported by resident on-call ED Consultants 24/7.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Primary Medical Qualification.
- Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months (or within 6 months for non-EEA applicants).
- Completed Foundation Programme or equivalent.
- At least 6 months previous NHS experience.
- At least 12 months experience of working in emergency medicine.
- ALS or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
- Other resuscitation course, e.g. ATLS, APLS, NLS, ETC
- Distinctions. Scholarships, prizes, BSc (or equivalent).
- Anaesthetic & critical care experience.
- Completion of ACCS programme or equivalent.
- Completion of CPD activity related to a specialist interest.
Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to independently manage a wide variety of presentations to the emergency department, including initial resuscitation of unwell patients.
- Able to independently perform practical skills required in core emergency medicine work.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of skills developed beyond the core requirements.
- Experience of supervising/providing advice to junior medical colleagues.
- Experience of clinically managing an emergency department.
Management and Administration Experience
Essential criteria
- Proven management and administration ability.
- Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of advanced management experience, e.g. involvement in complaint response, serious incident investigation, rota management.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Ability to teach clinical skills.
- Evidence of teaching a multi-professional audience.
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualifications.
- Resus course instructor
Clinical Governance, Audit and Research
Essential criteria
- Experience of audit projects.
- A solid understanding of Clinical Governance.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of participation in quality improvement work.
- Evidence of involvement in research.
