We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 3 Occupational Therapy Support Worker to join the Elective Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy Team, this full time role is a permanent position.
The post of a therapy support worker is to provide specific assessments and treatments to patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist. There will be an element of clerical and administration tasks involved in the post (Record keeping, filing, ordering equipment, entering ‘stats’ onto the computer, stock control of splinting materials and equipment, taking part in the office cleaning rota and collecting equipment from peripheral stores). When working with in-patients, the role will be to provide rehabilitation and interventions to facilitate the safe discharge of patients.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for someone who can adapt to changing priorities and work in a busy environment and use their own initiative. The successful applicant will work alongside the Occupational Therapists who cover the Elective Orthopaedic wards. The successful applicant will be involved in assessment, progression and discharge planning of this patient group and will be expected to utilise rehabilitation programmes. You will also assist Occupational Therapists in the fitting of splints and Brace to patient on a variety of wards including Intensive Care. You will be responsible for your own caseload, working both individually and alongside other members of the team.
There is a weekend working & bank holiday commitment as part of this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To work on the Elective Orthopaedic wards / clinics & Outpatients at the city hospital
Assessment, progression and discharge planning of patients following a trauma
To utilise rehabilitation programmes
To assist Occupational Therapists in the fitting of splints and Brace to patient on a variety of wards including Intensive Care
To be responsible for your own caseload, working both individually and alongside other members of the team
OT tasks will include being responsible for gathering information about home circumstances, completing specific functional assessments
Ordering equipment and providing rehabilitation and planning discharges
Daily administration and clerical tasks that are key in this role
Person specification
Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE (A-C) English and Maths or equivalent
- Willingness to undertake further training and learn new skills
Desirable criteria
- Working towards or achieved NVQ level 3 or equivalent in health related subject.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience as a therapy or Rehab assistant
- Ability to effectively manage own case/work load, with support.
- Experience of keeping written notes/records to record work undertaken
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Effective written, verbal and listening communications skills.
- Can work independently or under direction of a variety of supervisors
Organising & Analysing
Essential criteria
- Skills in prioritizing work tasks
