Applicants should possess full GMC registration, MRCP and either already be on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of receiving their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.

The successful candidate will be appointed under the current terms and conditions of service for NHS Consultants. Full consideration will be given to applicants who wish to apply for a reduced/part time or flexible contract. 

About the service:

The Infectious Diseases Service lies within the Medicine & Emergency Care (MECS) Collaborative. The Trust presently employs six Infectious Diseases consultants at James Cook University Hospital (Dr Brendan McCarron, Dr David Chadwick, Professor Richard Bellamy, Dr. John Widdrington, Dr. Chris Lawrence and Dr John Williams), and a physician in Acute Medicine/Infectious Diseases (Friarage Hospital), Dr James Dunbar. There are currently 3 Infectious Diseases/Microbiology trainees, 1 ID/GIM trainee (to increase to 2 in August 2024) and 2 LED ID/Microbiology trainees. There is an excellent working relationship between the Microbiologists and the ID consultants.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will form a team of 7 consultants to provide Infectious Diseases services including consultations, ward rounds, clinics, on-call, audit, and associated administrative duties. A special interest, supplementing the existing interests of colleagues, is encouraged.

They will also provide inpatient Acute Medicine ward rounds. The successful applicant will contribute to the Infectious Diseases on call rota at a frequency of 1:5

  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview.

Experience

  • Relevant experience in any declared specialist interest pertinent to the post
  • Substantive experience of Infectious Diseases
