Job overview

Are you an experienced translator? Are you looking for a new challenge?  Public Health Wales wishes to appoint a Translation Coordinator to join the Welsh Language team to manage and coordinate a translation service for the organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with translation experience to support the organization to operate bilingually, to offer the best service possible to our Welsh speaking customers and to achieve the aims of our Welsh Language Standards.

The Translation Coordinator is expected to work effectively with colleagues across the organisation to manage translation work and work closely and professionally with external translation suppliers to manage contracts and oversee returned work.  The post holder will also be able to provide a translation service from Welsh to English and from English to Welsh as needed.

There is flexibility in terms of the exact work pattern, and the job is suitable for working partly from home.

If you would like to join our dedicated team and have experience and qualifications to match the job description, please apply for the role.

The job holder will have fluency in both Welsh and English.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage and provide a specialist translation service from English to Welsh and Welsh to English to enable the Trust to implement the principle that it will treat Welsh and English on an equal basis. The post holder will lead on the implementation of a comprehensive programme of delivery for the Trust’s translation service, taking a proactive strategic approach to ensure compliance with the Welsh Language Standards under the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011.

The post holder will ensure that the Trust puts into practice a comprehensive system of change to successfully deliver its translation service. The post holder will provide the strategic guidance in improving translation services, ensuring performance indicators are upheld, and addressing any shortfalls.

The post holder will act as the first point of contact for all queries relating to translation and interpretation for the Welsh language and will work closely with all our contracted translation providers.  The post holder will use their highly specialist knowledge to provide a lead role in the implementation and continued development of the Trust’s translation system and function, including the regular reviewing of the effectiveness of the process and outcomes. The post holder will also be responsible for identifying and implementing improvement and development measures.
