Job overview

This is an opportunity to apply for the position of Band 7 Specialist Radiographer for MRI  based at Wycombe Hospital. 

The successful candidate will work alongside the Modality lead  to provide a safe and efficient MRI service. You will be expected to work/ train to cover CT, Cath Lab and plain film as required by the service. 

Candidates should have significant MRI experience with a post graduate qualification in MRI.

The successful candidate will be expected to train new staff, implement service change and maintain image quality, while being an expert point of contact for junior staff.

 

Main duties of the job

- Work alongside the Modality Lead  for the MRI Service.
- Vet and accept specialist and general imaging requests.
 - Perform highly complex scans including cardiac MRI.
 - Intravenous injection of contrast media by hand or by injector.
 - Programming of scanner sequences/protocols for use of other staff. -

- Advanced knowledge of MRI sequences to be able to perform an unprogrammed scan.
 - Full participation and trainer of MRI equipment QA.
- Cannula insertion trainer and competency assessment.
- High pressure injector trainer and competency assessment.
- Use imaging sequences appropriate to the patient’s condition.

- Interpretation of MRI images to a level where the post-holder is able to discuss further imaging sequences with a Consultant Radiologist to improve the diagnostic out-come for the patient.

Person specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent in Radiography
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of CPD and attendance at relevant short courses
  • Post Graduate Certificate in MRI

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 4 years’ experience in radiography including out of hours work
  • Supervision and training of junior colleagues
  • 2 years specialist experience in MRi
  • Assisted in protocol development
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of day to day running of a service.
  • Appraisal experience
  • Experience of Quality Assurance or up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety and Risk Assessment issues.
  • Advanced Practice - PICC lines, U/S Guided procedures, Reporting

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Ionising Radiation Legislation
  • Venepuncture and cannulation
  • Manual handling skills
  • Clear concise oral and written communication skills in order to deal with a range of staff/ patients and provide written reports.
  • Ability to develop protocols for clinical imaging
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety issues
  • Computer literate

  • Organisational skills
  • Appraisal and objective setting

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

  • Travel to other sites if required
