Job overview

  • To perform comprehensive assessment of Musculoskeletal (MSK) patients to identify treatment targets based on sound clinical reasoning skills
  • To be confident in the use of a wide range of evidence based treatment techniques for multiple MSK pathologies
  • To be competent in assisting patients with pain management with a variety of approaches and skilled communication techniques
  • To be involved in teaching and audit in order to evaluate and improve service delivery
  • To assist senior colleagues in the development of the MSK service

Main duties of the job

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Band 6 MSK physiotherapist to join the Community MSK Assessment & Physiotherapy Service (CMAPS).  CMAPS is a dynamic MSK service providing patient centred assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to the adult community of Dudley, in the heart of The Black Country. This innovative and forward-thinking service comprises of physiotherapists, Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners, Clinical and Operational Leads, physiotherapy support workers and an administration team, who all strive to deliver holistic, outstanding MSK care.

The post involves assessing patients within a health centre setting utilising your clinical reasoning to manage a varied caseload with support from peers, APP's and Clinical Lead.   AHP Job Plans have been implemented for all the team and this role is 85% direct clinical contact and 15% protected for supporting professional activities.  The post will be based at Brierley Hill Health & Social Care Centre ideally working over 3 or 4 days a week.

Qualifications and education

Essential criteria
  • BSc / Diploma / MSc Pre-registration Physiotherapy

Knowledge and training

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of Continuous professional development via relevant post graduate courses specific to MSK
  • Knowledge of national clinical guidance in MSK field
  • Competent IT skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in effectively managing patients with MSK conditions with a wide range of pathologies.
  • Able to perform appropriate subjective assessment including specific questions relative to specific conditions and identification of psychosocial barriers.
  • Demonstrate reasoned objective assessment techniques and able to perform in a timely manner.
  • Confident in implementing a range of evidence based interventions in practice underlined by a sound level of clinical reasoning.
  • Able to screen for suspected sinister pathology and experience in managing cases with support.
  • Experience in contributing to enhancing team performance by leading or participating in service improvements.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a community setting and management of GP referrals.

Communication and Relationship skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience in supervising and appraising others with the ability to deliver feedback.
  • To act as a role model and manage conflict professionally

Analytical & Judgement Skills
