Senior Data Engineer (Development Team) The Information Department has a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic professional to join our Development Team as a Senior Data Engineer. 

We are looking for a motivated person who possesses excellent SQL Programming skills and has experience designing low code solutions in Power Platform.  The ideal candidate will work flexibly as part of a small team responsible for maintaining the departments Data Warehouses, Applications and Reporting service. 

We offer a full induction, flexible working hours and excellent career opportunities.  You will be based at one of our three main offices - Wrexham Maelor Hospital, Abergele Hospital or Bangor Hospital where we offer hybrid working, with regular office attendance.

Main duties of the job

The team has responsibility for the design and maintenance of the organisation’s data warehouse; its products and processes, delivery platform and all applications relating to the acquisition, maintenance and presentation of data.  These information products support the organisation to strategically and operationally manage health services across North Wales.

The following are therefore essential:

  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and techniques
  • Advanced SQL skills
  • Experience of ETL processes
  • In-depth knowledge of database design and the Microsoft SQL Server platform
  • Experience of designing/writing/supporting Business Intelligence reports and dashboards
  • Experience of designing/writing/supporting Power Platform products
  • Understanding of the importance of thorough testing

In addition, the applicant must possess excellent communication skills in order to facilitate requirements elicitation alongside excellent analysis skills in order to be able to translate these requirements into working solutions and warehouse datasets.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • Bachelor's degree in in a Science, Technology or a Maths subject or equivalent qualifications, knowledge or experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Microsoft Certified Qualifications in Data Engineering or similar subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a data engineering or similar role
  • Working knowledge of SQL query language
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of Power Platform in particular Power Apps and Automate

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability and confidence to speak publicly to groups of people, demonstrating ideas, concepts and data engineering solutions and answer related questions.
  • Able to establish good working relationships with people at all levels.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to speak Welsh
