Job overview

To assist the Manual Handling Trainer / Advisor with the delivery of corporate people handling training courses, deliver inanimate load handling courses and updates for staff from across the University Health Board (UHB) and health care science students from Universities on placement.

With the Manual Handling Team, ensure that the UHB complies with legislative requirements to train and assess the competence of staff, and to reduce the risks associated with moving and handling activities

 

Main duties of the job

  • To report to the Manual Handling Trainer / Advisor to deliver people handling training through demonstration of techniques and the use of patient handling equipment during practical training sessions.
  • Provide specialist knowledge on practical issues related to Manual Handling/Personal Safety, demonstrating a broad range of techniques and procedures.
  • To liaise with, and feedback to the Manual Handling Trainer on attendees performance during people handling training to ensure accurate training records are maintained, and any issues arising in the training room are satisfactorily resolved.
  • To deliver inanimate load handling training sessions unsupervised using lessons plans provided, maintaining accurate training documentation e.g. attendance sheets, training logs, evaluation reports etc

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To liaise with, and feedback to the Manual Handling Trainer on attendees performance during people handling training to ensure accurate training records are maintained, and any issues arising in the training room are satisfactorily resolved.
  • To deliver inanimate load handling training sessions unsupervised using lessons plans provided, maintaining accurate training documentation e.g. attendance sheets, training logs, evaluation reports etc.
  • Ensure all resources are available for the delivery of people and inanimate load handling training sessions including attendance sheet, training documentation, equipment etc.
  • To be responsible for the safe use of equipment and resources within the training area.
  • Liaise with the Manual handling Trainer / Advisor in the administration of training such as booking rooms, advertising course dates, providing course information to attendees, maintaining training database by recording training provided and results of any workplace competence assessments undertaken.

 

Person specification

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Educated to NVQ Level 4 or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Good general education with a minimum of GCSE C in English and Maths.
  • Good level of IT skills including Word, Power-point Spreadsheet, Publisher and Databases.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, written and demonstration skills.
  • Demonstrate a practical, problem solving approach to manual handling issues.
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and the risk assessment process, and their application to manual handling in the workplace.
Desirable criteria
  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a healthcare setting where patient moving and handling activities were required.
  • Significant working within a healthcare setting.
  • Confident presentation skills in a group setting.
  • Good time-management with an ability to keep a training session on schedule.
  • Can exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Can show an ability to cope under pressure e.g. work within time constraints
  • Adaptable approach to team working.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working as a manual handling champion Previous experience working/volunteering in group settings Have previous experience of demonstrating patient handling techniques and use of equipment, or working as a training assistant.
