Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Medical Secretarial Team in the Medical Directorate on a Permanent basis.

To provide a comprehensive, high quality medical secretarial and administrative service to the consultant their medical team and specialist nursing teams, and other health professionals within the Cardiology Service.  To co-ordinate and maintain arrangements to facilitate the patients progression along a defined pathway. To maintain the office organisation and monitor the workload related to the administration team.

 

Main duties of the job

Applications are invited for the position of a Band 4 Senior Medical Secretary working in Wrexham based in the Cardiology Office.

It is essential that the applicant holds the relevant qualifications as per the person specifications, previous medical secretarial experience would be desirable, a high level of audio typing skills, excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and a good telephone manner.

The post holder will also have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, using discretion, judgement and initiative. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential together with a keen eye for detail, with the ability to process and generate urgent and routine correspondence.

Candidates must be able to maintain patient confidentiality and ensure a high standard of customer care at all times.

It is essential that the successful candidate has a flexible approach to work to meet the demands of the service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Business administration L4 or equivalent experience or City & Guilds (AMSPAR) Level 3 Diploma in Medical administration or equivalent medical secretary experience
  • RSA/OCR Level 3 or equivalent experience or qualification in typing
  • ECDL or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification or working towards
  • NVQ 3 Customer Service

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of coordinating administration activities.
  • Experience of working as a Medical Secretary.
  • Experience of organising workload and people.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS Experience.
