We have an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse to develop their clinical skills and knowledge within the sleep service / ventilation team. The Team diagnoses and treats patients with obstructive sleep apnoea, movement disorders, and sleep-disordered breathing. The team predominately look after outpatient who require sleep studies and NIV and CPAP treatment but also review some inpatients who require sleep studies or any guidance on NIV. The team are currently exchanging devises due to a global recall.
The role will involve working some of the time at the new CDC in West Swindon health centre

It is imperative that the successful applicant is keen to learn respiratory skills and knowledge. The successful applicant will required to work autonomously at times and within a friendly team. Good communication and team working skills are essential.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To prepare and set up new patients on Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) This involves patient assessment, explanation of Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) and CPAP therapy, mask fitting, trial of CPAP equipment and downloading compliance data.
2. To prepare and set new patients up on Non-invasive ventilation, this also includes explanation into therapy, mask fitting and trial of NIV equipment and downloading Compliance data and taking appropriate action as
necessary.
3. To deal with clinical queries from new and long-term CPAP and NIV users over the telephone and by email.
4. To provide Home sleep studies and oximetry on an outpatient basis.
5. To ensure simple fault remedy, cleaning, and maintenance of recording equipment within the service.
6. To download home sleep monitoring equipment and ensure cleaned and ready for next patient.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First Level Registered Nurse
- Current/live registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Diploma/Degree qualification
- Teaching/Assessor Qualification e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent
- Qualification or experience in teaching and assessing
Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent experience nursing patients in an acute / community setting or recently completed a Return to Nursing course. Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing knowledge and practice after qualification and Preceptorship. Working within a multi-disciplinary team environment. Experience within a range of patient/client care groups
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication. I.T. Literate. Ability to document details clearly and accurately. Good interpersonal skills and is able to deal with difficult/sensitive situations. Ability to prioritise and organise own workload. Willingness to undertake training and assessment for further clinical skills. Able to undertake audits
Desirable criteria
- An understanding of the structure for the delivery for Community and social care services
