The opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join our Pharmacy Department in the role of Pharmacy Stores Assistant.

Our friendly and progressive Pharmacy department is currently looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking individual to join our stores team. This role will involve maintaining, receipting and ordering of pharmacy medication both within the pharmacy department and at ward level.
Main duties of the job
To perform general pharmaceutical duties under the supervision of a Section Manager (or deputy) and/or Pharmacist and assist in the provision of a safe and effective Pharmacy service, in line with current policies and procedures. In the stores this would be undertaking ward based top ups and picking stock boxes, processing stock request slips, receipting and putting orders away, ordering and invoicing for stock and sorting out returned medicines from the wards. This will be undertaken under the supervision of the stores and dispensary managers in line with current policies and procedures. There may also be a requirement to undertake a regular dispensary slot, and to be able to assist when required. It is expected that the post holder will undertake in depth training to obtain a QCF level 2 in a relevant subject for the post or equivalent qualification. Please note: Significant manual handling is involved in this role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Ordering Pharmaceutical stock in line with department procedures and rotas.
- Receiving orders from hospital suppliers
- To maintain computerised records for stock items in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, including stock arriving in Pharmacy.
- Completing ward top ups as per department procedures.
- Putting together orders from various hospital clinics, departments and outside units.
- Sorting and disposing of returned drugs from the wards and departments according to the Pharmacy and Trust policies.
- Understanding procedures required when encounter potentially hazardous products such as cytotoxics, irritants and poisons etc.
- Answering the telephone dealing with enquiries as appropriate.
- Receive, validate and process in a timely manner via the Pharmacy Computerised systems; invoices, credit notes and other authorisations for payment / rebate pertaining to the Pharmacy Department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- QCF level 2 in Pharmacy services – or willing and able to work towards
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English grade C or above
Desirable criteria
- ECDL qualification or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and undertake instruction
- Demonstrates sensitivity in dealing with staff
- Ability to work effectively within a team in a co-operative and collaborative manner
- Experience of working with multi disciplinary teams
Desirable criteria
- Previous pharmacy experience
Skills
Essential criteria
- Good IT skills including Microsoft applications
- Good literacy & numeracy skills required
- Well-developed physical accuracy and dexterity
- Able to concentrate for prolonged periods when subject to changing working patterns
- Demonstration of good manual handling practices
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Pharmacy computer systems
- Knowledge of WDA
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
