Lead Pharmacist - Education, Training and Acute Medicine
We have an exiting opportunity for a pharmacist to join our team. If you are passionate about helping others to grown and develop and also want to advance your own clinical skills this could be the perfect role. Working closely with the lead pharmacist for the medicine division you will be responsible for developing the clinical pharmacy services to acute medicine. As the lead for education and training you will work closely with the pharmacy workforce team to develop education and training materials and deliver training and educational supervision to both pharmacy staff and the wider MDT. This will post will be at the forefront of emending pharmacist prescribers into the acute medical team and if you have not completed your independent prescribing qualification we will support you to do this.
Main duties of the job
Under the direction of the lead pharmacist workforce, education and training to be responsible for the
management and delivery of the Pharmacy Education and Training Programmes.
To facilitate, deliver training and act as a clinical tutor for trainee and foundation level pharmacists. To
develop Pharmacy practice-based research within the department.
To act as an advanced clinical pharmacist to acute medicine ensuring the accuracy, legality, safety and
efficacy of prescribed medication in line with local and national procedures.
To support responsible person and deputies in ensuring that the facilities and service are compliant with all
aspects of Good Distribution Practice (EU GDP 2013/C 343/01), and all other relevant medicines regulations and quality standards. To manage related training provision to all operational staff within the facility. To act as an operational lead in any relevant aspects of regulatory audit (internal and external).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Education & Training
1. To lead and develop the Pharmacy education and training programme.
2. To educate, maintain and develop a team and specialty-based model for clinical pharmacy service provision.
3. To regularly meet with the Pharmacy Clinical Services Manager and education and training and workforce lead.
4. Provide and support the on-going education, training and professional development of clinical Pharmacy staff. This includes supervision, training and support to junior pharmacists, trainee pharmacists and other pharmacy staff as necessary
5. To provide teaching of clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice to undergraduate M Pharm students, student nurses, student doctors and qualified healthcare professionals. Teaching will include lectures,
practical classes / tutorials and supervising research projects.
6. To plan and facilitate the trainee pharmacists 12-month programme at GWH, and act as a trainee pharmacist designated supervisor if required.
7. To co-ordinate and manage the post-graduate pharmacy clinical diploma pharmacists including applications for funding, supporting training of diploma pharmacists and act as a diploma mentor.
8. To develop summer or vacation hospital placements at GWH for pharmacy undergraduates, promoting the hospital Pharmacy sector as a career choice.
9. To prepare business cases to support Education and Training Pharmacy developments
10. To arrange and/or deliver relevant departmental meetings that will enable staff to be brought up to date on current issues and provide education on medicines issues.
Clinical Pharmacy
1. Act as an advanced Pharmacy practitioner for acute medicine, to plan the care and identify areas of concern related to medicine use in a specialty.
2. To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients in acute medicine in line with clinical pharmacy standards and objectives
3. Clinically checking all prescriptions before dispensing and referring to the prescriber any unusual doses, potential drug interactions or incompatibilities for confirmation or revision before authorising dispensing.
4. Assist in clinical decision making to ensure patient safety and medication effectiveness through the medicines optimisation agenda.
5. Discussing with patients any issues about their medication and liaising with other health care professionals in Primary and Secondary Care as appropriate.
6. Review results of external audit related to patient care and develop action plan as necessary.
7. To be/ become an Independent Prescriber (IP) and to continue to develop the role of pharmacist independent prescriber within the Trust.
8. To be/ become a designated prescribing practitioner for pharmacist prescriber trainees
9. Contribute to the strategic development of pharmacy services and lead by example to enhance the Pharmacy Service reputation both at a local and national level.
10. To deputise for the Deputy Clinical Pharmacy Manager, lead for medicine.
11. To collaborate in the development of Integrated Care Pathways, clinical guidelines, Standard
Operating Procedures, Patient Group Directions and any other required policies within the Pharmacy department

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- M Pharm Degree or equivalent / General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration
- Postgraduate diploma (Diploma or MSc) in clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy or similar
- Keeping professionally up to date including CPD
- Lead Pharmacist - Education, Training and Acute Medicine
Desirable criteria
- Management experience
- Non-medical prescriber
- Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
Experience

- Highly experienced as qualified pharmacist
- Experience working across departmental and organizational boundaries
