An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent position for Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to work in our Endoscopy Unit at The Great Western Hospital NHS Trust.
We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking, well organised and with a positive attitude towards flexibility and change. We would welcome previous experience in Endoscopy to apply for this post, you will have a passion and willingness to learn new skills to specialise in this field.
You will be supported by the experienced Endoscopy team to develop clinical skills with a full training package. With the new CDC Endoscopy Site opening in West Swindon you will be expected to rotate between the sites.
Main duties of the job

- To sustain a high-quality service within the Endoscopy multi-disciplinary team.
- To be knowledgeable about all Endoscopy procedures and be fully aware of medical treatments relevant to work area.
- To provide information, education, and psychological support to patients with benign and malignant disease.
- To run a procedure room and assist Endoscopists with procedures.
- Provide patient information on Endoscopy procedures enabling them to make informed consent.
- Understand JAG Accreditation, and work within its framework.
- Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals.
- To provide telephone assessments for patients prior to procedures.
- To assist with OGD, Colonoscopy and Flexible sigmoidoscopy procedures, including more complex procedures such as ERCP, Bronchoscopy and EBUS.
- To co-ordinate a busy Endoscopy unit and delegate tasks to staff accordingly.
- Manage staff, including appraisal, sickness management and incident reporting.
- Understand Roster system and staff allocation- maintain safe staffing levels.
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to audits.
- Preparing equipment used during Endoscopy procedures.
- Preparing and administering intravenous medications. Ensuring compliance of medicine management trust policy.
- To complete documentation relevant to Endoscopy procedures.
- To participate in compiling audits for JAG.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Act as a clinical expert in their area of practice.
2. Take charge in absence of Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
3. Participate in the delivery of care to ensure the individual needs of the patients are met.
4. Promote the development, implementation and review of standards policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
5. Assist in effectively leading and motivating staff in the provision of care and future service development.
6. Promote evidence based clinical practice and assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in performance improvement within the unit.
7. Act as a Link Nurse resource for a specified clinical area and disseminate information to the rest of the team
8. Act as a resource in nursing practice throughout the specialities.

- Significant post registration experience
