Major Gifts Manager

NHS AfC: Band 5

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a unique organisation, serving as the sole integrated provider in the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire system. Our scope extends beyond boundaries as we oversee adult community services in Swindon and provide acute care from the Great Western Hospital.

Our 5,500 staff have 1.2m patient contacts a year, with 13,000 operations carried out in our Theatres, around 4,000 babies born, and our emergency attendances are now well over 100,000 per year. Those numbers only tell part of our story about what an exciting time it is to join Great Western Hospitals.

We are cultivating a culture that fosters our ambitions, prioritising equality, diversion, inclusion, wellbeing, and leadership. We aim to create an environment where every member of our team can truly thrive.

The Trust is a Disability Confident Employer; all applicants who have a disability can opt to be considered under the guaranteed interview scheme, which means that, providing they meet the minimum essential criteria for the post, they will be offered an interview. We are also proudly accredited as a Veteran Aware organisation and have signed The Armed Forces Covenant.

If we receive a high volume of applications, we may close adverts prior to the published closing date. Therefore, we advise you to complete and submit your application as soon as possible.

Job overview

As a pivotal member of our fundraising team, you will be responsible for developing strategies to generate major gift funds and manage the various stages of their implementation. In consultation with the Fundraising Manager and Associate Director of Charitable Funds and Voluntary Services you will continually raise the profile of the charity in order to develop and nurture relationships with our supporters.

The post of Major Gifts Manager is an important link between the hospital’s charity and its high-net-worth supporters and will require knowledge of fundraising and considerable energy and enthusiasm that will inspire donors to continue to support Brighter Futures through engaging applications, communications, project updates and reports.

The role will also be responsible for researching appropriate trusts, foundations and other grant making bodies. Managing and developing the major donor programme and stewarding donors all in line with the Trusts strategic objectives for income growth.

Main duties of the job

A key element of the role will be to create compelling, creative, and persuasive applications and cases for support and to maintain excellent engagement, to develop and grow major gift income.

A key task of this role would be to create tailored presentation materials that evidence the need and impact of certain bids and raise income with a focus on securing five and six figure major gifts from individuals and charitable trusts and foundations by initiating and developing long term relationships.

Working for our organisation

Brighter Futures is the charity for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Great Western Hospital in Swindon and community sites in and around Wiltshire. The Charity is one of more than 280 NHS Charities in the UK, which between them hold assets of £2.2bn and raise over £330m per annum used to enhance and support patient care and provide grants for projects that are over and above those served through government funding.

Brighter Futures helps improve the hospital environment, fund ground-breaking research, support the development and training of hospital staff and provide state-of-the-art equipment. We are committed to encouraging a diverse and inclusive working environment for our people, our business and the communities we serve.
