Do you have experience in capital accounting and want to take the next steps into a senior role?  If you are looking for an opportunity to make a difference to patients through sound capital management and achieve best value for the NHS pound, while being part of a finance team keen to continuously improve, then please consider this role at Great Western Hospitals.

NHS experience is not essential; for the right candidate we will support a full induction into NHS capital reporting requirements.  Of importance is the ability to build effective relationships, partner with the business and communicate finance to non-finance stakeholders, while being an extremely well-organised and methodical team player.

This is an important post that is key to the success of the organisation’s short-, medium- and long-term Capital programme. The post holder is expected to work at all levels in the organisation and demonstrate credibility with Corporate Senior Managers and Divisional teams.

The post holder will be responsible for the performance of the capital accounting function with an annual capex spend of £40m.This includes: the timely and accurate production of capital accounts; capital expenditure management, governance and reporting;capital prioritisation, planning and forecasting; and maintenance of the Trust’s fixed asset systems.
The postholder will be expected to act as the capital expert for the Trust and have excellent communication skills to develop effective working relationships with internal and external colleagues.The Finance Business Partner–Capital is managerially accountable to the Head of Financial Services and professionally accountable for ensuring duties are carried out in accordance with statutory regulations, NHSE’s financial directives, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Trusts’ internal control, corporate governance and reporting requirements.

  • Experience of PFI accounting
  • Experience of developing and maintaining Long Term Financial Models
  • In depth knowledge of NHS Finance Policies and Guidance.
  • Up to date knowledge of developments in the NHS.

Qualifications

  • CCAB or CIMA Qualified Accountant with evidence of current membership
  • Evidence of undertaking Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

  • Educated to Degree Level or equivalent experience

Knowledge

  • Experience at a senior level in financial accounts, including experience of final accounts, capital and asset management
  • Experience of problem solving and meeting tight deadlines in a challenging environment
  • Experience of Finance/General Ledger systems including ability to design reports and maximise benefits
  • Ability to interpret and apply new policies and guidelines

  • Detailed working knowledge of the Foundation Trust finance regime and accounting requirements.
