Divisional Director - Surgery, Women and Childrens

The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Trust as Divisional Director for our Surgery, Women’s and Children’s (SWC)Division. We are looking for a leader who can bring their vision for driving clinical services for our patients. The role is open to internal & external candidates.

As Divisional Director of you will be responsible for providing strong strategic and operational leadership to the Division, ensuring that the delivery of safe, high quality care to the patients who use our services. With a wide ranging portfolio, you will receive support and development to enable you to fulfil your potential, become the best version of yourself and make a real difference to our services, our staff, our patients and the community to whom we service.

As the post holder you will lead and inspire staff to develop, deliver, and improve on services within the Surgery, Women’s and Children’s Division, ensuring local and national targets are achieved through ensuring high quality patient care and experience within financial control.  You will agree the strategic direction and objectives of the Division through your skills of engagement with the clinical, nursing and operational teams’ & be responsible for delivering on the Trust’s strategic goals.

You will be an enthusiastic and inspirational leader who is resilient and passionate about patient care. You will be a strong strategic thinker with a credible leadership style, and have a focus on achieving delivery and performance targets. You will recognise the importance of effective people and financial management as essential and will be committed to continuing our journey to develop a culture of continuous improvement into everyday practice and strive to be truly open and inclusive in the services we deliver.

Working closely with our local partners, we continue to integrate care and clinical pathways to help our staff deliver excellent care with exciting plans to upgrade a whole range of services on the Great Western Hospitals site through our Way Forward Programme, which includes an expanded and co-located urgent and emergency care service.

Qualifications

  • Educated to master’s degree level or equivalent qualification
  • A management qualification e.g. post graduate diploma in management studies (DMS) or equivalent
  • Evidence of recent continuous professional development at a senior level to include leadership development

  • Post graduate health or management qualification or equivalent
  • Experience in health care including clinical qualifications relevant to the division
  • NHS Improving Quality tools and techniques in waiting list, demand and capacity management
  • Formal project management qualification

Experience

  • Experience of managing and developing staff in line with NHS Leadership Framework
  • Demonstrates understanding and recent experience of project management skills
  • Performance management methodology
  • Demonstrate use of evidence based practice

  • Significant operational experience in acute/integrated healthcare.
  • Previous involvement in NHS service development and reconfiguration
  • Experience in participation in NHS on call service as a senior manager.
