Job overview

Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a new Information Analyst.

 This is an opportunity to be seen to make an impact with the existing team in the process of having a significant investment to increase the skill mix and numbers in the team.  This expansion supports an increasing pull from the Operational side to turn the data the Trust holds into performance information they can have when they need it, how they need it, in a way that makes sense to them.

 A key part of this role will be working closely with the other information analysts and supporting them in deliver of information to the divisions and so the ability to communicate clearly and confidently is essential.  Scope will include ongoing development of standard reporting, accountability for quality and timeliness routine and ad-hoc analysis.

 The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate information analysis experience and a good knowledge of information and reporting. Be a good team player, have strong communication skills and a willingness to learn.

Main duties of the job

The Information Analyst will work closely with Divisional Information Analyst, and services where required, in providing high quality information and analysis and producing statutory returns to support the Trusts
business needs.

This role is focused towards achieving these objectives through the managing and producing statutory reports, the development, design and maintenance of health related datasets and information and analysis, 
the provision of advice and guidance on reports or analysis and the managing of processes for own area ensuring all statutory deadlines are met.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Understand and interpret complex information and analytical requirements, assess the purpose for which outputs are required and support, develop and deliver appropriate solutions using various 
information query tools and languages. 

2. Support Trust decision making through discussion and interpretation of information requests, data extraction, and the processing and production of reports which may be complex, business critical and/or confidential.

3. Analyse data for a wide range of clients, determining the best form for communicating/presenting the information, from simple to complex and ensuring that the presentation is relevant, comprehensible and 
conforms to agreed timescales with the client. 

4. Using experience in data analysis, investigate, identify and resolve problems in the production of routine reports and other ad-hoc tasks and provide reliance by supporting other colleagues in doing so.

5. Interpret information, highlighting trends and/or inconsistencies and undertake ad hoc data analysis to investigate any issues highlighted.

6. Develop, maintain and utilise an understanding of NHS datasets and the use of information across the NHS

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Evidence of continued personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Degree in relevant fields e.g. informatics, analysis, statistics

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience working within an Information or analysis role.
  • Detailed analysis & validation of various types of data to inform assessment of performance of complex organisations and to help identify opportunities for improvement
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Experience with healthcare quality frameworks
  • Experience with NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to interpret the client’s needs, to ensure that the most appropriate data/information is provided
  • Ability to communicate complex (potentially contentious or sensitive) analytical issues to data literate persons or groups at various levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to source data from a variety of sources.
Desirable criteria
  • High level of computer literacy & technical competence – including strong knowledge of MS EXCEL and SQL
  • High level of numeracy with good problem solving and attention to detail.
