Job overview
The post holder will undertake and carry out delegated aspects of the risk portfolio ensuring that the systems and processes inform a comprehensive picture of risk across the organisation. Supporting the Deputy Chief Nurse in designing, developing, and delivering the Trust wide Risk Management Strategy to meet the needs of Clinical Divisions and Support Services.
The post holder will contribute to and support the Legal Services Manager in ensuring that the administrative processes within Legal Services are efficient and responsive to the needs of the organisation and will work closely with the Quality team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Risk Management
-
Develop relationships and communicate with staff at all levels in the Trust regarding risk management, employing all available communication formats

Act as a point of contact across the Trust for general queries relating to risks; and to ensure resolution.

Attend divisional, specialty or department meetings to support staff in effectively fulfilling their duties in identifying and managing their risks and risk registers by providing advice, facilitation and critically challenging scores and inadequate content.

Arrange and deliver training sessions to Trust staff on the risk management and use of the register.

Support the compile risk register reports for key Committees / Groups throughout the Trust, i.e. Trust Management Committee, Trust Board, Audit Risk and Assurance Committee & the Risk Committee.

Review the Trusts risks, incidents and complaints to identify themes and ensure triangulation to obtain information required for analysis to present to the Risk Committee.

Facilitate the Risk Committee, liaise with Risk Leads to create agendas and provide minutes and maintain an action tracker.

Support the Divisions / Departments by producing and disseminating regular feedback on their risk register status e.g. for accountability reviews.

Use skills to assist with the escalation of risks from divisional level to corporate level.

Monitor the risk register and ensure timely movement through the system via liaison with the risk leads / divisional leads.

Liaise with Datix (Super user) to develop expert skills and specialist knowledge to ensure the Trust receives the best value from the system and to facilitate ongoing developments to the system that are of benefit to the Trust.

Support the development the Datix system in response to national changes and local feedback eg. form design. System changes must be cognisant of the effect on other Datix modules and satisfy data protection regulations.

Create reports within Datix Business Intelligence Tool to provide Divisions and Corporate Departments with reports to facilitate discussion at their meetings

To ensure new users with their correct access rights and that this is periodically reviewed.

Co-ordinate the risk management training programme.

Deliver professional risk management guidance and advice within the Division to senior management and all grades of clinical and non-clinical staff to support them and their activities at all stages of the risk management cycle

Establishing a range of specialist programmes suitable for different audiences including Trust Board members.

Delivering risk training and evaluate the effectiveness, taking remedial action as required.

Be responsible for the designing and providing learning materials and intranet content in relation to the Trusts Risk Management Strategy and how to use the Risk Register

Promote a culture of pro-active and responsive risk awareness.

The post holder will work autonomously using own initiative, seeking guidance from the Quality and Compliance Manager.

The post holder will assist the Clinical Risk and Patient Safety Lead & Deputy Head of Patient Safety and Quality to update and disseminate the contents of the Risk Management Strategy to all relevant stakeholders to ensure they understand their responsibilities providing any clarification required to ensure that when the Risk management Strategy is reviewed that the relevant stakeholders are made aware of any change s that will impact them.

Co-ordinate implementation of the Trust Risk Strategy within the Division including responsibility for ensuring the integrity of all Division level Risk Registers and risk assessments.
Integrated Performance Report
-
Support the deputy Chief Nurse to facilitate the creation of the Integrated Performance Report across all Quality Services.

Liaise with leads to update the contents and gather the correct information to create SPC graphs to provide information for the slides.
Facilitate Legal
-
Facilitate the timely reporting of claims to NHS Resolution (NHSR) in accordance with their procedures

Oversight of the Legal Services inbox

Oversee the Quality Administrators to complete the disclosure process.

To support in the absence the LSM to provide support and information to members of staff relating to legal enquires and to escalate where appropriate to the Head Patient Safety and Quality

Produce weekly Legal and Risk oversight report for the Deputy Chief Nurse and Head of Patient Safety & Quality.

Escalate concerns to the Legal Services Manager regarding disclosures

Sign off Legal Disclosures before sending to Solicitors to ensure all documents requested are sent.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or evidence of equivalent professional qualification / or equivalent experience
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development and openness to self-development
Desirable criteria
- Qualification / experience in governance or risk management
Experience
Essential criteria
- Wide knowledge and understanding of risk processes
- Knowledge of corporate governance frameworks and evidence based assurance systems
- Knowledge of risk management within an NHS organisation or large public service organisation
- Experience of prioritising work to meet deadlines in a highly pressured environment
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using risk data to improve practice
