NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

Salisbury District Hospital is looking for motivated and enthusiastic junior doctors looking to elevate their expertise. Whether you’re set on a career in the specialty or trying to decide where your strengths lie, our Orthopaedics department will welcome you. This opportunity is made yet more distinctive with the offer of experience in a variety of sub-specialties; revision arthroplasty, orthoplastics, spines, shoulder and elbow, foot and ankle, hip and knee surgery and trauma surgery. With the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Unit, the Wessex Rehabilitation Centre and other such specialist treatment centre, Salisbury District Hospital is the ideal next step for a more comprehensive and diverse educational and professional experience. As a junior clinical fellow, you will become part of the multidisciplinary teams that devote themselves to the constant and consistent improvement of the standard of healthcare provided to our patients.

You will be joining our Trauma and Orthopaedics team, which will include 6 junior doctors at F2 / CT level working alongside 9 registrars and 15 T&O consultants who will guide and supervise your continued professional development. Your responsibilities will include taking up on-call duties (1:6) and Hospital at Night team (1:12) duties according to a rolling rota.

Main duties of the job

Responsibility for the daily care of the ward patients working in co-operation with the registrars.

Routine admissions and emergencies to be clerked.  Clinical notes to be maintained, clearly and accurately.

Attend the Emergency Department to review cases referred to the department.

Assist in the operating theatre wherever possible, when ward duties permit, and in post-operative recovery of patients following major Orthopaedic surgery.

Attend ward rounds of the combined Orthopaedic staff and of individual consultants, including the wards rounds with the Ortho-geriatrician.

Attend, where possible, out-patient clinics for formal teaching of regional examination and clinical injuries.

Encouragement will be given for junior doctors to carry out research if he/she wishes.

The post holder would be expected to attend educational sessions and in particular the specifically designed course for Junior Medical Staff, with protected time for education on Friday afternoons if not on duty.

The post will participate in the Out of Hours on-call for Trauma & Orthopaedics on a 1:7 basis and Hospital at Night rota 1:12 basis.
