Job overview

The maternity health care assistant will be an effective member of the team providing kind, considerate and professional care to women and their families. You will undertake an agreed range of extended skills to support the Community Midwifery service. The midwife will be responsible for all care and supervision.

There may be occasions when you may be escalated to work within a clinical area of the maternity department. At all times you will be working under the supervision of a Clinician within the department.

Main duties of the job

A Maternity assistant will provide direct care to mothers and babies with minimal supervision but under the direction of a registered midwife following training.

You will be responsible to undertake hearing screening for new born babies,  in line with national standards. The role is based in the community setting including maternity hubs, working within a community midwifery team.

  • NVQ in Health or Health & Social care Level 3 or equivalent

  • 2 years experience in a Health Care setting as a Maternity Care assistant or similar

Knowledge & Skills

  • Able to confidently communicate with a multidisciplinary team when necessary
