The role will involve day to day supervision and organisation of the technical diagnostic services within the department to ensure turn-around times are achieved and provide excellent service delivery.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

HCPC registration
BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (or equivalent)
Post-graduate, post registration training in a specialist area, leading to the completion of a specialist portfolio (or equivalent)
MSc Biomedical Science or working towards (or equivalent)

Desirable criteria

BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion practice
Willing to pursue further qualifications

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Detailed knowledge of theoretical and practical laboratory procedures within Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion
Evidence of continuing professional development to demonstrate specialist knowledge
Ability to work within all areas of the department
Comprehensive understanding of quality control / quality assurance procedures

Desirable criteria

Understanding of basic management practice

Experience

Essential criteria

At least four years experience as an HCPC registered biomedical scientist
Detailed working knowledge of laboratory information and management computer systems
Demonstrable problem solving skills
Detailed knowledge of standard IT packages e.g. Microsoft Office

Desirable criteria

Experience of working alone out-of-hours

Ability to organise own workload and that of subordinate staff
Possess highly developed technical skills and be adept at all laboratory procedures
