Do you have a passion for Palliative Care services and the Hospice environment? This is an exciting opportunity to join the Salisbury Specialist Palliative Care Service as Volunteer Co-ordinator. The Volunteer coordinator plays an integral part in the management and development of the volunteer service across all parts of the Palliative Care Services and will be involved in all elements of the volunteer programme from recruitment, placement, retention, and recognition of volunteers.

The post holder will work within the administrative team supporting the Matron, Service Manager and Consultant lead and develop the Palliative Care Volunteer Service. They will co-ordinate and maintain all voluntary activities, as well as leading the training and development of volunteer staff.

Main duties of the job

The Volunteer Co-ordinator will ensure the provision and maintenance of all voluntary activities across the Salisbury Hospice Service. They will provide volunteer support to a large team of volunteers who work across the whole Palliative Care Service, helping to promote the individualised care of patients and their families / carers. The role is vital to ensuring the recruitment, management and continuation of our volunteer services, as well as act as a single point of liaise for all volunteers across the service. It is an exciting opportunity for someone who would like to contribute to the valuable work that the Specialist Palliative team deliver, working within a busy and rewarding role.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification
  • Microsoft outlook (E-mail and diary management etc)
  • Clerical/office administration experience preferably within a health care environment
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Has up to date knowledge of the role of voluntary services nationally and within the local community Shows awareness of employer responsibilities in respect of voluntary staff, including compliance with relevant legislation, e.g. health and safety
  • Awareness of good practice in volunteer management
  • Demonstrates understanding of the needs of individuals facing loss at many levels
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, including managing difficult conversations
  • Provides and receives routine information and adapt for where there may be barriers to understanding or where a level of tact/persuasion is required
  • Understanding of confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to working and willingness to support other teams when required
