Job overview

The South West Clinical Senate is looking to appoint a Senate Administrator to fill an existing vacancy within the team. The post is offered on a permanent (0.6 WTE) basis.  

Established in 2013, the South West Clinical Senate is responsible for providing independent clinical advice to commissioners on all aspects of clinical care and especially on complex pathways delivered across multiple health and social care communities. Following the abolition of the National Clinical Assessment Team (NCAT) in 2014, it now also assumes an important role in providing early clinical input and formal assurance of the clinical components of significant service reconfiguration proposed by Sustainability and Transformation Partnerships prior to public consultation. 

We have a strong Senate Council of circa 50 clinical members and secured engagement from over 100 clinicians across the region through our Assembly as well as a Citizens’ Assembly of national repute. This is an exciting opportunity with real involvement in improving experience and outcomes for patients. 

Main duties of the job

As Senate Administrator the post holder will work as part of the Clinical Senate team, providing administrative support for the Clinical Senate Office. The Clinical Senate is an independent clinical advice-giving body that provides support to commissioners and clinicians across the South West region by develop clinical advice on a range of strategic healthcare topics as well as organising clinical reviews of large-scale service change prior to public consultation.

The postholder will require strong administrative, organisational and communication skills. They will support the Senate Manager and Senate Support Officer in delivering the Clinical Senate business activities. This includes providing admin support (including minuting) for the various Clinical Senate meetings, diary management for the Senate Manager and other members of the Senate Management team, as required.

The Senate Administrator will support the maintenance, updating of the website, social media and other communication channels.

The Senate Administrator is required to be proficient in MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.

The role includes regular communication with senior clinicians from across the whole spectrum of healthcare provision. Excellent interpersonal and prioritisation skills will be employed daily. More information can be found at  www.swsenate.nhs.uk.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
