Be part of our future landscape
At Airedale, we are committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. We actively encourage applications irrespective of people’s age, lived experience of living with a disability or long-term conditions, gender, race or ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or other personal circumstances.
Increasing our diversity and supporting our organisation to be more inclusive is a key priority here at Airedale and our teams are at the centre of how we work towards this.
We appreciate all people may have diverse and individual needs and we pride ourselves on supporting all people to thrive and flourish at work. We have frameworks in place that support reasonable adjustments and flexible working for colleagues throughout their working lives which starts at recruitment.
These are exciting times for Airedale. We have the once-in-a-career opportunity to be involved in the planning and building of a completely new hospital here on our Steeton site by 2030. By joining us now you’ll be a key part of our journey over the next few years, with the chance to input into a state-of-the-art, modern healthcare facility that will deliver care to our communities for decades to come. We are also on the journey to a new electronic patient record, part of our wider ambition for our digital future – a future that builds on our significant telemedicine and digital care success. Ultimately, what makes Airedale special is our people. Not just our staff, but our volunteers, patients, visitors, and wider population who make up the Airedale family. This is a Trust that sits at the heart of our community, and our communities are very proud of their Trust.
Job overview

professional development and a satisfying work life balance.
Following full middle grade establishment paediatric consultants have
become non-resident at night.
The trust is attractive to SAS doctors due to its CESR programme,
and it is an expectation that the post holders will also support this
development. There has been a recent investment in the paediatric
ward and the unit now has a dedicated assessment area to provide
ambulatory care and reduce the number of emergency admissions to
our unit.
Further development of ambulatory care is a key part of our future
vision with system partners
Main duties of the job
The role involves covering the children’s ward and assessment unit,
the neonatal unit and elective work, including clinics.
The option would be to take on the other half of this role with the
support of our experienced safeguarding team.
Airedale has visiting specialists from the local teaching hospital in
Leeds, including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology,
Rheumatology and various Paediatric surgical specialities. There is
also an established diabetes and allergy service, and we are a
shared care site for paediatric oncology.
Working for our organisation
Facilities
The Childrens Unit currently has 15 beds and is shared according to need with the surgical specialities. There is a Children Assessment Room to assess and observe children.
The Ward has an attached playroom, and a secure external play area. The Level 1 Neonatal Unit provides care for babies born at more than 32 weeks. Due to our rural location is it sometimes necessary to stabilise babies born less than 32 weeks or for transfer to Tertiary Unit.
The Neonatal Unit has 10 cots, up to three of which are for stabilisation of sick neonates. These are fully equipped with Draeger ventilators and incubators. The Neonatal Unit has its own blood gas machine and radiology viewing station. The Neonatal Unit has now been re-designated as a level 1 Unit.
The Child Development Service is based on the Airedale site and provides a comprehensive service. It will not form part of the appointee's duties.
