We are looking for enthusiastic occupational therapists to join our band 5 development scheme to enable us to support secondment opportunities. This innovative scheme is a partnership between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Foundation Trust. It provides opportunities to develop clinical knowledge and skills in a wide variety of settings in both physical and mental health services for the benefit of service users in the Airedale and Bradford districts. The clinical areas include; · Inpatient physical services - Orthopaedics, medical and stroke · In patient mental health services · Community rehabilitation team · Community mental health teams for adults and older people · Forensic services · Learning disabilities · Children’s services - Child Development Centre and CAMHS

The band 5 development scheme is a partnership between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford District Care Foundation Trust and provides secondments to a variety of physical and mental health teams in the Airedale and Bradford localities. Posts on the scheme are full time to ensure graduates are able to achieve the competencies for each clinical area prior to rotating and to support individual and service development. The clinical specialities included on the scheme are;
- Inpatient physical services - Orthopaedics, medical and stroke
- In patient mental health services
- Community rehabilitation team
- Community mental health teams for working age adults and older people
- Forensic services
- Learning disabilities
- Children’s services - Child Development Centre and CAMHS
Services generally operate week days between the hours of 8.30 and 4.30 but in some teams there is a need to work more flexible hours which includes evening, weekends and bank holidays
- Prioritise, plan and deliver clinical case work with support and supervision of a senior therapist.
- Apply evidence based, knowledge and skills
- Work in partnership with patients, carers, the MDT, and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
- Work with team members to ensure the effective functioning of the team
- Participate in quality improvements
- Contribute to student training and development

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Clinical
- Provide timely and efficient occupational therapy service to patients according to clinical protocols and service priorities.
- Ensure patients receive a high standard of clinical care and meets the standards expected from the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
- Use investigative and analytical skills to undertake a comprehensive occupational therapy assessment of a patient.
- Reflect on complex facts gathered or situations presented and use analysis
and judgment skills to consider options for interventions, and outcomes.
- Formulate individual management and treatment plans, using clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills.
- Implement occupational therapy interventions in partnership with service users and carers and in consultation with colleagues.
- Plan and organise to carry out assessment and interventions in the most appropriate setting.
- Monitor and evaluate the outcome of interventions in partnership with the service users and carers and in consultation with colleagues.
- Collaborate with the MDT to develop and improve patient pathways.
- Respond to unforeseen situations that take precedence over planned work.
- Provide advice, teaching and instruction for relatives, carers, and other health professionals to promote understanding of the aims of occupational therapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
- Provide advice to therapy and dietetic colleagues working within other clinical areas across the Trust.
- Support the development of assistants and students.

- State registrations with the Health Care Professions Council

Experience

- Relevant and recent undergraduate experience working in a variety of clinical areas and settings
- Undergraduate experience of multidisciplinary team working and working collaboratively with other professions and agencies

- Recent post graduate experience within neuro-occupational therapy
- Experience in use of IT applications
- Experience of audit and research
- Experience of service development
- Experience of working shifts / weekends
