Job overview
We are looking for a band 7 senior sister to join the discharge lounge on a 3 month fixed term/secondment.
The post holder carries continuing responsibility for the delivery of care needs and for the management of the Discharge Lounge.
Main duties of the job
1. Proactively co-ordinate discharges within the discharge lounge.
2. Ensure the Discharge Lounge is utilised on a daily basis to create flow, reporting to Matron and Bed management where failure occurs.
3. Maintain custody of controlled drugs, checking and maintaining ward stock of drugs in accordance with local policy and legislation.
4. Monitor effective nursing documentation which is kept on all nursing activities.
5. Ensure safe custody of medical/nursing records and reports.
6. Ensure effective communication channels are maintained with multi-disciplinary teams.
7. Provide support, education and knowledge on all aspects of discharge planning to the staff within the Discharge lounge.
8. Ensure an effective learning environment is established and maintained for all trainee staff on the ward.
9. Develop, maintain, and participate in programmes for Preceptorship and Clinical Supervision.
10. Participate in the setting and monitoring of standards in relation to patient care, ensuring qualitative and quantitative aspects of care are evaluated and addressing any non-compliance to standards.
11. Be instrumental to develop practice in the light of research.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Experience at Band 6 (or equivalent)
- Current NMC registration
- Diploma in Nursing/working towards degree
- Has studied at diploma level
- Teaching & assessing ENB 998 (or equiv)
- Relevant post basic courses
Desirable criteria
- Has studied at degree level
- IV drug administration/venepuncture
- BLS/ACLS
- ALERT
Experience
Essential criteria
- Excellent teaching & coaching skills
- Experience in managing resources
Desirable criteria
- Has worked in different care specialities
- Recent experience of working within an acute care setting

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
