Decontamination Services Technician Bank Team (Grade A)

Job overview

We are looking for candidates to fulfil bank roles as  Decontamination Services Technicians in our current team.

Working hours to cover day and evening shifts, Saturdays and Bank Holidays.

The department is operational Monday to Saturday weekday 8am to 12am midnight, Saturday 8am to 1pm

Main duties of the job

To undertake decontamination services duties and assist in providing a specialised decontamination of medical device contributing to the clinical care of the patient.

To carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilisation of reusable medical devices. Recording all tasks on the Health Edge computerised traceability systems.

Work in accordance with the department's work instructions and Quality Management systems.

To provide supervision to Apprentice Decontamination Technicians within the team.

Plan own workload with limited supervision

The role involves exposure to blood and bodily fluids.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work in accordance with departmental policy, work instructions and Quality Management System.

To reprocess reusable medical devices, disassemble, clean, disinfect, check, assemble, sterilise, despatch and track in a controlled environment.

To provide advice and training to Apprentice Decontamination Technicians effectively.

To provide a collection and delivery service to the Decontamination Services department customers

To inform the Decontamination Technician Supervisors of any raw material shortages and ensure stock is rotated.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent knowledge/or GCSE English & Maths at grade C or above
Desirable criteria
  • Basic Microbiology Knowledge

  • Ability to work accurately under pressure

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Healthcare/industry experience in health and safety and hygiene
Desirable criteria
  • Working within a quality system and standard operating procedures
  • Knowledge and experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of customer relations and dealing with a diverse customer base both face to face and over the telephone
  • Proven experience of working within a healthcare/manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working in a team but also able to work on own initiative
