Our Catering Team within AGH Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, are now looking for caring, committed, and flexible colleague to join Catering Team in the new and exciting role as Development Head Chef, working within our catering team. 

You’ll be working alongside our chefs and cooks, supporting them in delivering meals for our colleagues, visitors and patients, along with working with our Specialist Catering Dietitian on menu planning.

You will also have end to end line management responsibilities of a team of colleagues, this will include, training, onboarding, recruitment, sickness and performance management, other parts of your role with include working with the services manager with service development and profitability.

Main duties of the job

AGH Solutions Catering Department is committed to providing a high quality standard of service to all of its patients and customers.

To provide a professional catering service, managing the production of food within the Catering Services department along with overseeing and developing our retail services

 

To ensure that set standards, procedures, and processes to produce high-quality food are adhered too and comply with all internal and external food production regulations and legislation.

 

A full understanding of the NHSE (NHS England) Food and Drink standards and their effects within the Trusts Food and Drink Strategy, alongside others such as the Trusts Green plan.

 

To supervise and support members of your direct and wider indirect team.

 

Liaising with members of the Catering Services Management team to provide a comprehensive customer journey for services users, staff, and visitors.

Working alongside the Specialist Catering Dietitian and Services Manager on the development and implementation of Trust menus, promoting food waste and green miles reduction, current food trends, and nutritional requirements.

 Working with the Catering Management team in developing inhouse teams and upskilling through training plans, coaching and external courses.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level 2/3 in Cookery or City & Guilds 7061 & 7062 OR Equivalent
  • Must have sound numeracy and literacy skills.
  • HACCP Training
  • Food Allergen Trained
Desirable criteria
  • IOSSH
  • Food Safety Level 3

Skills/Competencies

Essential criteria
  • IT skills with the ability to use a range of IT systems
  • Organisational skills in delivering a quality food service to service users including retail and inpatients
  • Ability to motivate staff, individuals and teams
  • Capable of working within time limits and under pressure
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of data inputting / online ordering / Familiar with Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Experience of Line management of teams
  • Event Catering / Schools / Universities
  • Hospitality Catering
  • Event planning/lead responsibility experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of Confidentiality, Dignity and Respect
  • Good understanding of Food Safety and Health and Safety
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training and any departmental training/qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures
  • Understanding of Information Governance
  • Knowledge of patient catering and special diets
  • Knowledge of temperature and HACCP monitoring systems

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous catering experience
  • Good knowledge and understanding of allergen management
  • Previous experience working with the public/customers
  • Previous experience as a Chef
  • Experience of Staff Management
  • Stock taking procedures experience
  • Experience of producing menus & recipes to meet dietary requirements
  • Good organisational skills in delivering a quality food service to service users, staff and visitors
  • Experience of Profit and Loss and GP Workings
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in production of special diets
  • Previous Cook in a Healthcare / Hospitality / Education Setting
  • Experienced career in catering and retail operations
  • Experience of using electric stock systems

Other

Essential criteria
  • Experience of completing work records and ability to work to schedules, procedures and deadlines
  • Ability to undertake rota requirements if necessary, including early mornings and public holidays
