Job overview

BDCFT is looking for enthusiastic and innovative Band 6 Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service (ALPS) Mental Health Liaison Nurse to be an active part of a team of trained and competent professionals in liaison Mental Health, who deliver a timely and compassionate assessment which effectively sign posts service users with mental health issues, presenting in our General Hospitals.

The successful applicants will need to be an excellent motivated practitioner, able to work within a General Hospital environment, respecting their views and methods, while simultaneously promoting Mental Health and collaborative working. In addition, close relationships and partnership working will be essential with other key stake holders such as the Voluntary Care Sector, Local Authority, Blue light services and above all the service users and their families.

Other key areas of work that the applicant will need to focus on are, trauma informed care, ensuring older adults receive an equitable service, creating safe and inclusive pathways for the intoxicated service user, a focus on the increased risks for Perinatal service users and linking in to key services to counter the impact of social deprivation.

The role will be to effectively implement all the above, maintaining Trust values and a high enthusiasm for quality service delivery.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard of nursing care for service users within the Acute Community Services in Bradford and Airedale

Mental Health Nurses working within the Acute Community Service provide clinical risk and mental health assessment, formulation and short-term contingency planning to service users presenting in the Accident and Emergency Departments who are in mental health crisis.

Working within the community, Mental Health Nurses provide a range of face-to-face brief solution focused interventions empowering service users, carers and their families in decision making and signpost to a range of health and social care resources for support.

There is the opportunity for placements within the Acute Community Services which includes Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service, Intensive Home Treatment and First Response Service. But this role is specific to our Acute Liaison Psychiatry Service, which are based the local General Hospitals

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Mental health care/treatment relevant to service.
  • Multi-agency working/working across service interfaces.
  • Working within a multicultural framework.
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching, training and/or supervision of clinical staff

Experience

  • Mental health care/treatment relevant to service area.
  • Relevant experience in acute mental health Nursing care.
  • Working with adults presenting in mental health crisis.
  • The role requires minimum of 18 months post qualified experience.
