Job overview

Please note that the reason for the Fixed Term of this contract is to cover Maternity leave. 

The Accounting Manager is primarily a management accounting role within the South East Region Financial reporting and Analysis team. The role requires preparation of the monthly management accounts and Budget management support for the WT&E, Finance, PHE and Corporate office Directorates within the region.  

Main duties of the job

  • uploading journals into Oracle including - Coding corrections, Accruals, budgets and forecasts
  • Updating Running cost Trackers for individual cost centres in liaison with the relevant Budget managers to ensure Budgetary control is maintained - Actual spend, forecast spend, Employee details - both pay and non-pay - flagging any variances to Budget managers and to Finance line managers in a timely manner.
  • Supporting Budget managers to manage staff vacancies and approving budget availability for recruitment via the regional Establishment control processes.
  • Following the month end timetable and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Answering Budget holder queries including p/order and invoices raised on the Oracle system.
  • Managing the quarterly WT&E Education funding agreement process to ensure accurate and timely payments to NHS Trusts/FTs by working in collaboration with the national WT&E team.
  • Holding monthly Budget holder meetings to present and run through the Running cost trackers and use this intelligence to keep the trackers up to date and relevant.
  • Other Ad-hoc/Data cleanse/Data collection or analysis as requested by the Senior Finance Manager or Deputy Director of Finance to support the Regional finance team.
  • Support the Regional finance team with the implementation and changeover from Oracle ISFE1 to Oracle ISFE2 leading up to and during "go live" on 1st April 24.

  • Intermediate Excel skills
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and prioritise own workload across a range of responsibilities

  • At least 2 years experience of working within a finance environment, working in a complex area
  • Experience and knowledge of NHS Finance
  • Experience of working within Oracle accounting system
