Job overview

The post holder will support the Head of School in the Strategic Development of the School of Psychiatry. The post holder will support the School’s Operational Programme and lead on programmes of work within the School strategy. The post holder will be a member of the School Board.

 The post holder will support the School’s commitment to delivering excellent postgraduate psychiatry training, in environments which promote staff wellbeing, a positive learning culture, and a sense of belonging.

 Please note this is a 3- year secondment extendable to a maximum of three years, subject to mutual agreement

Main duties of the job

To work in collaboration with The Head of School for Psychiatry in implementing the Medical Workforce Strategy, in alignment with the Long-Term Workforce Plan, which supports the recruitment and retention of Psychiatric Trainees to the North West Scheme

 
To support the School Quality strategy with focus on improving training experience and outcomes
 
 
To support the Head of School in the early identification and management of trainees requiring extra support , with the Lead Associate Dean for the specialty, in line with the NHSE North West WT&E Doctors and Dentists Review Group/Doctors in Difficulty framework

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To promote faculty development and direction setting by supporting and developing Training Programme Directors

 
To work with host trusts, ICBs  and clinical colleagues to promote the work of the School and encourage a collegiate approach to the delivery of specialty training across NHSE North West WT&E, including participation in School and NHSE activities.
 
To work with the Head of School, Lead Associate Dean for the School, the Deputy Dean for Quality and the HEE North West Office Quality Team to ensure appropriate quality management systems are in place that facilitate a culture of inclusion and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Consultant Psychiatrist on the Specialist Register
  • Member/Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Based in the North West Region
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, Train the trainer, etc)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with doctors in an educational context
  • Experience as an educational supervisor
  • Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
  • Understanding the Workforce Transformation agenda
  • Experience in Recruitment
  • Awareness of funding streams for Healthcare Education
  • Clinical Manager Experience
