Job overview
The post holder will lead the Innovation hub team which will support the workstreams in horizon scanning national and internationally, reviewing the evidence and/or developing the evidence base in partnership with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and Think Tanks. The successful post holder will be able to work at and develop working relationships with national and international leads/ experts/ working groups to support our thinking and decision making and develop the approach and direction of the team ensuring that regional and national work and key stakeholders are encouraged to be active participants.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have accountability and responsibility for the strategic and operational development of the Department/Directorate/Sector. Plans to achieve the strategy will be underpinned by the delivery of short to medium term objectives.
Key aspects of this role will be to:
- Ensure the strategy is formulated, understood by all stakeholders and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure the development and management of relevant strategic plans, within the Sector.
- Ensure appropriate system and processes are in place to enable the implementation of the strategy plans in the new organisations.
- Proactively manage the key risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.
- Monitoring and establishing accountability on the overall progress of the strategy to ensure completion within agreed timescales.
- Manage the whole budgetary implications of activity.
- Avoid the destabilisation of business as usual.
- Manage and actively promote the relationships with key stakeholders.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

Essential criteria
- Educated to master’s level or with equivalent experience of working at a senior clinical and operational level a provider level organisations
- Hold clinical professional registration
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive knowledge and experience at a senior level within an acute hospital setting. This would be at Deputy Director or near Board level
- Have experience of a leadership role within a new hospital build programme, or major government programme
- Demonstrate extensive innovative problem solving within the health care environment.Extensive experience of delivering presentations to large groups of stakeholders in often pressured and politically sensitive environments.
Skills and Attributes
Essential criteria
- Relationship builder in a complex environment – comfortable building strong relationships at all levels internally and externally (DHSC, NHS Trusts, design organisations, construction organisations and the wider public sector) and being able to influence in complex stakeholder environments.
- Able to create, develop and implement a strategy with a collaborative and inclusive leadership style.
