Job overview

The North West School of Radiology (NWSOR) is seeking applications for  an Academy Director who will be responsible for the coordination and delivery of the School’s Academy curriculum. This will be specific to the core training years from ST1 – ST3 and the delivery of ST1 & ST2 Academy placements.

The post holder will oversee the line management of ST1 TSTL & Subspecialty Curriculum Leads to ensure coverage of the curriculum and sessional teaching is delivered. This includes yearly appraisals, recruitment, and Educator MSF collation.  

The post holder will work collaboratively with Head of School, TPDs and Programme Support to support operational delivery within the NW School of Radiology.  

Travel to our regional Academy sites is expected and required for all of our posts.  All mileage and incurred expenses are reimbursed. 

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

       Oversee and guide ST1 and ST2 Academy placements & ST3 core curriculum. This involves knowledge of curriculum delivered and working with subspeciality curriculum leads. 

       Work closely with TSTL at ST1 and ST2 Academy placements

       Work closely with Exam support TPD

       Coordinate teaching sessions with programme support team where applicable

       Organise Academy Development Day

       Conduct bi yearly performance reviews and yearly appraisal of Academy team

       Attend bi yearly performance review

       Yearly appraisal and Educator MSF

       Attend TPD away day

      Recruitment of subspeciality curriculum leads & clinical lecturers

       Set up job plan for Clinical Lecturers

       Participate in Quality Panel for Academy

       Twice yearly meetings with leads

       Monthly Academy review meetings with programme support team

       Complete trainee workplace-based assessments where applicable

       Support Digital imaging education practice - CIMAR

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work in partnership with the Head of School, Associate Head of School Programme Support Business Manager, Programme Support team and educators to enable successful delivery of the Academy. The Radiology Academy has expanded to include teaching sites in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, The Christie, Aintree and East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals as well as installing a new dedicated site in South Manchester.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Consultant in Radiology on the Specialist Register
  • Membership or Fellowship of The Royal College of Radiologists
  • Formal educational qualification PGCert/FHEA Accreditation or equivalent educational experience
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum 2 years post CCT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of organising / delivering education programmes / courses in Clinical Radiology
  • Experience of creating both online & in person teaching material
  • Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
Desirable criteria
  • Prior teaching experience within the Radiology Academy
  • Prior Leadership role within Education/Training

  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Demonstrable Leadership skills and an ability to motivate others
