Job overview

We are looking for a candidate with excellent organisational skills to perform this key role in the External Affairs team of the Communications sub-directorate (part of the Strategy Directorate). Working as part of a small team, the Freedom of Information and Parliamentary Business team, the postholder will have an important role in delivering NHS England’s Parliamentary and Public Accountability function.

Main duties of the job

 

The postholder will:

 

  • Work with colleagues logging and tracking cases including Parliamentary Questions, Ministerial Correspondence and other parliamentary business;
  • Maintain systems and databases and provide data for reports and briefings;
  • Have good IT and writing skills, and the ability to work under pressure in a busy team who are managing multiple cases against short deadlines;
  • Support the Senior Parliamentary Manager with the administration of the MP Inbox database;
  • Have strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, as will need to deal with colleagues at all levels across NHS England as well as staff in MP’s offices.
  • Be able to provide support to the Freedom of Information team when needed.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

There will be opportunities to develop further skills by supporting the Case Officers, with the aim of career progression within the team. The post holder will report to the Lead Senior Parliamentary Briefing Manager and can be based at any NHS England office.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to NVQ 4 level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of qualification or significant equivalent previous proven experience.

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team with a large number of overlapping tasks
  • Willingness to work in a very busy function delivering precisely on tasks covering complex and detailed information
  • Ability to share of intelligence gathered from casework in the Parliamentary area of business.
  • Intermediate knowledge of IT systems and software programmes such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
