About the role: As a Senior Finance Business Partner within NHP you will deliver a full range of finance business partnering support to teams across the Programme including Programme Delivery and cost management teams. This post is within the Finance Business Partner Team within NHP Finance Directorate.  By establishing trusted relationships with key stakeholders, the Finance Business partner team delivers the insight needed to make high-quality decisions that drive value for money and improve patient care.

You will also deputise for the Head of Business Partnering as required, including at formal governance meetings.

Main duties of the job

Act as a senior finance business partner for hospital schemes providing comprehensive financial management support and advice to NHP project delivery leads, Trust leadership teams and NHP senior executives and. Part of doing this is getting to know the business from an operational perspective. This includes the preparation and monitoring of budgets in line with approved Business Plans, and supporting budget holders to make better decisions based on the financial information and the advice they receive for the ultimate benefit of the patients we serve.

 

Responsible for organisational financial planning and analysis, partnering with budget holders across the programme and delivering vital, timely information and analysis to the delivery of NHP’s strategic objectives by ensuring that NHP’s finances are managed appropriately in the short and long-term with robust controls in place to discharge responsibilities and ensure compliance with Managing Public Money and other relevant accounting and budgeting standards and guidance.

 

Ensure there is an effective financial control framework in place for hospital build projects, along with related systems and policies that allow financial planning and performance reporting to meet internal and regulatory requirements.

 

Lead activity to support NHP Project leads and Project teams in NHS Trusts in managing their delegated budgets and improve financial competence across NHP through learning activities and engagement.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Must hold a CCAB or CIMA professional accountancy qualification and have extensive relevant post-qualifying experience

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health, the NHS England/ NHS Improvement and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
  • Experience of budgetary responsibilities, including budget setting with evidence of working knowledge of financial processes

Skills Capabilities & Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed communication skills with the capability to analyse, review and make sense of highly complex, sensitive or contentious information across a diverse range of subjects relevant to post portfolio.
  • Ability to understand a broad range of complex information quickly and making decisions where opinions differ/no obvious solution.
