Job overview

We are recruiting a Band 6 Project Coordinator to join the Nursing Workforce Policy and Implementation team within the Nursing Directorate.

This post plays a key role in supporting the Workforce Policy and Implementation team in ensuring that all aspects of its work portfolio are delivered to the highest quality. 

The postholder will be used to working at pace, within in a complex environment with a focus on delivering outputs at an excellent standard. The role will require the postholder to work proactively and independently representing the team alongside a range of stakeholders. This role will work alongside and support members of the team to deliver its objectives, coordinating activity across various strategic projects. This will include supporting the full lifecycle of projects, working to foresee challenges, reporting on progress and supporting the management of risks and issues and escalating, as appropriate, to the Programme Manager. 

Main duties of the job

This post plays a key role in supporting the Workforce Policy and Implementation team in ensuring that all aspects of its work portfolio are delivered to the highest quality.

Key responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Supporting the scoping and design of projects during development to ensure the project is managed effectively
  • Working with team members and wider stakeholders to ensure project outputs are delivered in a high calibre and timely manner
  • Ensuring project work is tracked and reported adequately to ensure success in relation to both output delivery and impact on intended outcomes
  • Identifying any key risks and escalating to senior team members as appropriate
  • Drafting and maintaining project documentation, including project schedules, risk logs, decision logs and action plans
  • Liaising with and sharing key information with stakeholders to ensure successful programme delivery
  • Running meetings, taking minutes, managing follow-up, and preparing reports
  • Preparing and coordinating project responses to strategic-level requests (e.g. board papers, presentations and briefings)
  • Supporting the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Midwifery Officer Support Worker Excellence Award pre-panel, panel and post-panel work, including regional notifications, query follow-up and nomination distribution.
  • PMO development
  • National travel may be required (subject to project involvement)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
  • Further training or significant experience to post-graduate diploma level in project management.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in supporting project/programmes.
  • Experience of identifying risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Experience in planning, preparing, monitoring and reporting of project plans to progress.
  • Experience in communications and stakeholder management.
Desirable criteria
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project and/ or programme management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, MSP etc.)
  • Previous experience in similar role in a healthcare or public sector environment

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to work on own initiative, organising and prioritising own and others workloads to changing and often tight deadlines.
  • Takes decisions on difficult and contentious issues where there may be a number of courses of action.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately from or diverse audiences.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate complex issues, and recommend an appropriate course of action to address the issues.
